The works in his exhibition this time were done by Arman in the last 6 months after 6 years of not actively working on woodcut and displaying his work in an exhibition. The originator of the Propagraphic Movement often works on graphics and puts them in public spaces in Jakarta in 2003-2010. Voice the issue of the city, and social conditions at that time. Using a filter print poster medium, wood cut, and wheat paste. In this exhibition, Arman is positioning himself as a husband, father, and head of the household, telling stories about dreams, about relationships, about managing, and working.
Since 2012 Arman has been actively participating in several business motivation seminars and practicing his tips. The phenomenon of this business motivation seminar is widely followed by our society. Young couples and old couples, entrepreneurs, post-layoff employees and even students. Arman indeed makes family a motive in his daily life and an inspiration for his work. Strong support from his wife which in my opinion is the main motive.
Showing woodcuts without printing is indeed my first question why these cutouts are not printed on paper. Arman’s answer was quite fast, “I just want to read it, I don’t want it to be printed”. He has been working on and exploring woodcut graphic art for a long time, because for him, printing means finished. Arman doesn’t want this to be over, he still wants to do it.
This exhibition is an opportunity for Arman to share his daily stories and a momentum for him to continue his artistic process. For me, this is a pleasure in curating the work of friends who have worked together every year and have only been able to accomplish this.
